Graham began his career in North Yorkshire and Calderdale as Head of Modern Languages in 11-16 and 11-18 schools. His early professional experiences included roes as Research Officer for Nuffield Foundation and York University on Excellent Practice in Teaching Comprehensive Schools. He was headteacher for 18 years at Brighouse High School (Ofsted Outstanding), a designated Leading Edge school with the focus on school to school support. Supported schools in Sunderland, Walsall, Newcastle (St Michaels), Batley, Sheffield and Rochdale. All were in an Ofsted category and improved significantly following intervention.
Graham has been a School Improvement Partner since programme inception (85th SIP to be registered in first wave) and currently with schools in Leeds, Durham, North Yorkshire and Wakefield. He has been NCSL National Adviser for Leadership of the 14-19 Curriculum and NCSL National Adviser for 11-19 (New Secondary Curriculum) preparing and delivering programmes for dissemination to HTs, Senior and Middle Leaders and LA Advisers working in conjunction with National Strategies, SSAT, CFBT and ASPECT.
Graham’s work with NCSL included roles as Project Manager constructing and facilitating delivery programmes for the leadership of careers, Information and Guidance throughout England to HTs, Senior Leaders, LA Career Advisers and Connexions Officers as part of the DCSF dissemination policy and NCSL Regional Leader for headteachers in Yorkshire and Humber. Graham was NLE Broker from April 2009 and RSA for NLE/LLE Programme from 2010 selecting, inducting, advising, supporting and mentoring system leaders. More recently, Graham was Notional College Regional Director for North East and Teaching and Leadership Adviser for NCTL – specialising in Teaching Schools, school to school support and ITT. He was also founding Director and former Trustee of the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors and panellist for the Independent Examinations Appeals Board.
Graham’s current role as Chief Executive for Performance within Consilium Academies sees him leading on School Improvement, Leadership Development and Partnerships. He is the nominated lead for Wyvern Academy, Moorisde High and Ellesmere Park High School (transferring as key contact and SIP). Graham is also lead contact for RSC North.
