Martin Started his teaching career in Sheffield and was head of department in two comprehensive schools. He worked on two major national curriculum development projects in Geography and was the author of the key stage 3 geography series ‘Geography 2000’ (3 books).

After a brief spell as a Lecturer in Education at the University of Sheffield he went on to deputy headship in Kirklees with responsibilities for curriculum and timetabling. His first headship was at Kind James’s School in Kirklees. His second headship was at Ossett Academy and Sixth Form College. This school (academy) was a leadership hub for the SSAT and a lead school in the SSAT ‘Gaining Ground’ initiative.

Martin went on to be a National Leader of Education during his time at Ossett and was deployed to three projects between 2008 and 2012. All the schools had improved performances including supporting one to move out of special measures. Education Ossett Community Trust (EOCT) was led by Martin from 2008. This was an umbrella trust with nine schools in Ossett.

A former Trustee for the Geographical Association, Martin formally sat on the FASNA Board and was a member of the Head Teacher Board for Lancashire and West Yorkshire. His role within Consilium sees Martin leading on school organisation, curriculum and Teaching and Learning Development, as well as being the lead contact for RSC East Midlands and Humberside, key contact for Armthorpe Academy and the school improvement link for Buile Hill.
