WYVERN ACADEMY ‘STUDENT SPORTS LEADER’ BECOMES WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPION

Darlington student to represent England in the Youth European Championships in Greece

Elliot Peacock, Year 10 student at Wyvern Academy, part of Consilium Academies, has become a weightlifting champion. This month, October 2022, Elliot will represent England in the Youth European Championships, run by the World Kettlebell Sport Federation, in Sparta, Greece.

This follows his success in the North East Open in February 2022, where he took home Silver in Jerk and Silver in Snatch. In his very first competition in August 2021, Elliot took part in the North East Kettlebell Competition 2021 and won Gold in the Jerk Section.

Elliot was so committed to the sport during lockdown that he was awarded Athlete of the Month at the gym where he trains, Tu Nova Gym in Darlington.

At school, Elliot uses the gym to support his training as well as taking part in Dodgeball, Badminton, and Athletics. Elliot is a Sports Leader at Wyvern Academy and has represented his school by helping to run sporting events across Darlington, including supporting primary aged pupils in town sports competitions.

Elliot Peacock, Wyvern Academy student, said:
“I have fallen in love with the sport and feel that it has made me a more resilient person. I have become far more confident as a result of my training, and I feel this has benefited me in both my schoolwork and socially.”

Owen Inglis, Wyvern Academy Headteacher, said:
“We are incredibly proud of everything that Elliot has achieved. Elliot is a hardworking student who epitomises our school ethos of excellence in all that we do. He is a keen athlete who regularly takes part in school athletics with the support of our PE teachers, and we are pleased to see that he has qualified to represent England by competing in Greece in October.”
